Today is my sixth and final review from Warpo's Legends of Cthulhu line: The Deep One. Hinted at in "Dagon" and first appearing in "The Shadow of Innsmouth," these fishy beings are a fairly prevalent part of the mythology of H.P. Lovecraft's world. The Deep One is another army builder for the Legends of Cthulhu line and is ready to torment your other coastal dwelling retro action figures. Ready to find out what lies beneath the surface of this toy? Then join me after the break...
The Facts:
Height: 3 1/2 inches.
Articulation: Swivel hips, swivel shoulders, and a swivel neck.
Accessory: Spear.
The Positives:
*The Deep One is a great looking figure! The design is really appealing and looks quite a bit like Lovecraft's description of the creatures in "The Shadow over Innsmouth." He's rather unique looking, solidly constructed, and stands just fine on his own.
* The sculpting is impressive. Once again I'll reiterate that Warpo has done a fantastic job with both keeping these figures retro feeling and making them interesting with appropriate details. I love the small details like the bumpy skin, cooked mouth, and snaggle tooth coming out of the mouth.
*The paint work is impressive. While it only uses a few colors it manages to mix those colors together to make an interesting pattern on the Deep One's skin and back. The fins look quite good as well and really bring the sculpt to life.
The Negatives:
*The only negative I have is that I wish the spear had been molded in brown plastic rather than green. The color choices for some of the accessories in this line haven't always impressed me and this might be my least favorite choice. I just thing brown would have looked better and paired up with the primitive, coastal dwelling vibe of the Deep Ones.
The Deep One is another impressive figure in this line. He's a fun, funky little figure that brings to life a Lovecraft creature, something that's really fun to see. If you were only picking up two figures in this line, Deep One and the Spawn of Cthulhu would be the two to get. The Deep One is just incredibly cool and charming in his own bizarre, fishy sort of way. I'm giving him a Great rating and would encourage anyone interested in this line to follow Warpo toys on various social media platforms and inquire as to how these toys will be available to collectors on a wider scale.
I've reviewed every figure from the first series of this line, including:
Conjured Cthulhu
The Cultist
The High Priest
The Professor
Spawn of Cthulhu
